Accessibility Statement

1. The standard we measure against

We aim to meet WCAG 2.2 Level AA. We are not claiming full conformance. The known gaps in section 4 mean the honest description of this site is partially conformant: most of the standard is met, and the specific exceptions are listed.

There is no legal obligation on a private sector business in the UK to meet WCAG. We measure against it because it is the recognised benchmark, and because public sector buyers and framework tenders increasingly ask what a supplier's position is.

2. What we have tested

Every page on this site has been checked in an automated browser across six widths, from 320px to 1440px, for:

• Content spilling sideways off the screen at any width.
• The size of every link, button and form control against the WCAG 2.5.8 minimum.
• Text set below 12px.
• Form fields small enough to make a phone zoom in when they are tapped.
• Images with no alternative text.
• Errors in the page's own scripts.

Testing so far has been automated. Automated checks find layout and markup problems reliably, but they cannot tell you whether a page actually makes sense read aloud. We have not yet done a manual screen reader pass, and we would rather say so than imply a level of assurance we do not have.

3. What should work

• Every page starts with a “Skip to content” link so a keyboard or screen reader user can jump past the navigation.
• The whole site can be operated by keyboard, including the Industries menu, which opens on focus as well as hover and closes on Escape.
• Focus is always visible. Whatever you have tabbed to carries a clear outline rather than relying on the browser default.
• Every image carries alternative text describing what it shows.
• No page scrolls sideways at any width from 320px upwards, and the layout reflows rather than shrinking.
• Navigation, buttons and form controls meet the WCAG 2.5.8 minimum target size.
• Every page declares its language, so a screen reader pronounces the content correctly.
• Animation is reduced automatically if your device is set to prefer reduced motion.
• No page depends on colour alone to carry meaning.

4. Known limitations

These are the problems we are aware of. We would rather list them than let you discover them.

Small labels

Section headings and category labels are set in small uppercase type, in places as small as 10px. This is a deliberate part of the site's design, but it is small, and if your eyesight is anything other than sharp it will be harder to read than the body text around it. Browser zoom works normally on these and the layout holds together when you use it.

Links inside the legal documents

Links that sit inside a sentence in the privacy, cookie and terms pages are smaller than the WCAG minimum target size. The guideline allows an exception for links inline in a block of text, and enlarging them would push the lines of those documents apart and make them harder to read. We have taken the exception deliberately rather than by oversight.

No manual screen reader testing yet

As above, our testing has been automated. We have not yet sat down with a screen reader and worked through the site, so we cannot promise the reading order and announcements are right everywhere.

Third-party content

Some pages link to sites we do not control, including ChargeSafe, Arcane Charging Academy and our accreditation bodies. We are not responsible for the accessibility of those sites.

5. Tell us if something does not work

If you cannot use part of this site, we want to know, and we will treat it as a fault rather than a feature request. Tell us what you were trying to do, the page you were on, and what happened.

6. Enforcement

The Equality and Human Rights Commission is responsible for enforcing the Equality Act 2010 in Great Britain. If you raise something with us and you are not happy with how we respond, you can contact the Equality Advisory and Support Service.

7. How we keep this current

This statement is reviewed whenever the site changes materially, and at least once a year. The automated checks described in section 2 are run before changes go live, so a regression that reintroduces one of these problems is caught rather than shipped.
