A sales-focused podcast with a witty pun for a title. We chat about electric vehicles and the importance of early sales training for future careers.

Sometimes it's important to reflect on where we've come from and we take a dive into my early career to understand how that influenced my current and future career decisions. I've always had a passion to support environmental causes but it wasn't until I forged an early career in sales that I discovered the correct way to take that messaging out to people and see how I could make a difference. It's also impacted the way that I approach business development as I think it is important to be clear with people and undertake ethical sales. I've personally never understood short-sighted techniques which don't meet a good solution for a buyer so I've always wanted to forge long-lasting relationships with clients which create value for them.

This podcast episode covers a huge amount of ground around electric vehicles themselves, and it's always such a lot of fun talking about all the pieces of information I've gathered over the years. It's a really rewarding part of my role to help dispel misinformation and generally help give real advice to people. Sure, I'm likely to take a positive view on this topic but there's no agenda in these conversations, I would just like people and businesses to make informed decisions and if I can help some way in making that a reality then I'll take that as a positive.

Some of the big talking points of this episiode are the benefits of electric vehicles outside of those which you may typically associate with the topic. We discuss how having transitioned to an electric fleet may increase your chances of winning tender opportunities through potential reduction in both Scope 1 and Scope 3 emissions. This is a topic which I will explore in more detail in a future blog post, but in short, by making your business more attractive to purchasing teams through a lower emission fleet you increase your chances of winning that tender work.

We also discuss how the benefits range from idealogical to financial and this is one of the reasons I encourage everyone to dig a little deeper than just basic headline info when making a decision about their next vehicle or fleet purchase. As the benefits can be broad there is likely to be a reason to switch to electric which appeals in one way or another. For many this will be about showing a direct monetary saving over an equivalent ICE vehicle, and the numbers now stack up in the vast majority of cases. For others, this transition is about playing a part in improving local air quality, a subject which directly impacts yourself and those around you. And, of course, there's many other reasons inbetween.

Alastair makes a great point about the covid lockdown period where (especially where I was living in London at the time) one of the greatest talking points was around how clear the air felt and how quiet the street noise was. These positive impacts are totally achievable as a reality with a switch to electric vehicles.

If nothing else, I hope this podcast episode gives you some food for thought on the possibilities of either having EV's on your fleet or as your main personal vehicle. If there's any topics which are discussed which you'd like to find out more about I'm always happy to chat, just drop a message over to hello@safercharging.co.uk.
